The 2nd generation Acura CL utilizes a remote key fob to gain entry into the vehicle. There are times when you may have lost a remote key fob, or need to program an extra one. However, if you do this through the dealership, you may end up paying $100 or more for the remote and for them to program it for you.
But, it is possible for you to program your own remote key fob. In fact, you can purchase an aftermarket remote online and it will look and work like your OEM original key fob remote (FCC ID: E4EG8D-444H-A). Here is a great option for extra remote key fobs for the 2001-2003 (2nd gen) Acura CL. At the time of this writing, this remote goes for $25 if you buy one, and $40 if you purchase two.

How to Program a Remote Key Fob on a 2nd Gen Acura CL (2001-2003) Including Type-S
To reset the program a remote key fob, perform the following ensuring that each you carry out the each step within 1-4 seconds from the previous step. Ensure that all doors, hood, and trunk are closed before proceeding with this programming procedure.
- Turn ignition switch to ON.
- Push the LOCK or UNLOCK button with the remote key fob pointed at the keyless receiver unit (located near the glove box on the passenger side.)
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Push the key fob LOCK or UNLOCK button with the remote key fob pointed at the keyless receiver unit.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Push the key fob LOCK or UNLOCK button with the remote key fob pointed at the keyless receiver unit.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Push the key fob LOCK or UNLOCK button with the remote key fob pointed at the keyless receiver unit.
- Confirm that the door locks cycle, then press the LOCK or UNLOCK button with the remote key fob pointed at the keyless receiver unit.
- You are now in programming mode. Within 10 seconds, aim the remote key fobs you want to program towards the keyless receiver unit (up to 3) and press the LOCK or UNLOCK buttons. Confirm that the door locks cycle, which acts as confirmation of each remote being programmed.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF and pull out key.
Your remote key fob should now be programmed. Test out the operation of the key fob to ensure proper operation. Keep in mind that a maximum of 3 remote key fobs can be programmed to one vehicle. If you already have 3 remotes programmed to your Acura CL and you program a 4th, the 1st one programmed will be erased and the 4th one will be stored.
