Anytime I’ve washed my cars, I’ll stick with using regular garden hose nozzles. Or, I might use the nozzle that comes with a foam gun or a pressure washer. In most cases, I stick with a garden hose nozzle because it’s easy and it works perfectly fine for most car washing.
Occasionally, I’ll hear some chatter online about some really premium hose nozzles from Eley. I found them on sale so I figured I’d give them a try. When you buy from Eley, it comes with the valve handle itself, which features this large heavy handle with a smooth, full-flow ball valve. You can attach an adjustable nozzle which gives you one of three watering patterns for regular use. However, you can also use another brass nozzle that can give you a really nice full shower pattern of water. There are different screens you can install that can customize the exact volume and pattern that is emitted.
The watering nozzle itself is made of brass and feels heavy in the hand. It feels extremely well-made, which is probably why Eley offers a 10-year No-Leak, No-Fail Warranty. The four interchangeable stainless steel screens range from 1-4 gpm, so you can choose whichever one fits your needs best. Using the included screen change tool, you are able to swap screens. I wish that it would be easier to switch these screens out without an extra tool, but it does ensure that the screen stays fully secure. You don’t want these things flying off from the water pressure and hitting your car.
If you purchase the 3-piece Cleaning and Watering Set, it comes with two nozzles: one that allows for the screens to be installed, and another one that is adjustable and is for general spraying.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the glorious spray pattern pictured below? This is on the 1 gpm screen, which Eley says is good for gentle watering of plants. However, in the car washing world, we know this kind of pattern is great for one thing: and that is rinsing down your waxed or coated vehicle so that it leaves less water behind. It sounds counterintuitive, but if you use this kind of spray pattern, you can actually dry your car with it.
On my ceramic coated truck, I’ve already washed the car down with soap and now I am rinsing it off. If you slowly rinse the coated paint surface running from one side to the other, you can actually make the water run off the paint in away that very little water is left behind.
The Eley hose nozzles make rinsing or washing your car down a really enjoyable experience. It’s hard to explain if you haven’t sprayed water like this before, but it just makes the whole car washing experience so much better.
The quality of these nozzle is also second-to-none. If you’ve used normal garden hoses, they tend to break apart or over time start spraying poorly as the nozzles tend to corrode or get clogged. These hose nozzles continue to work superbly, and if they don’t well you have that amazing 10-year warranty that Eley offers. But, in the few years that I’ve owned these, I’ve never had it fail on me.
