DIY Detail Damyo Drying Towel: DIY Detail

I’ve tried a variety of drying towels over the many years of car detailing and just when I think I’ve tried them all, another one appears that is different from the others. Personally, I’ve had a lot of them come up short for a variety of reasons, so I end up resorting back to some of the ones that have been effective.

DIY Detail sent me their Damyo Drying Towel, which is a micro twist loop drying towel that is 1200 GSM and made of a 70/30 microfiber blend. It measures 17″ x 25″ in size and comes in a 2-pack as shown below. This drying towel is intended to dry your entire vehicle in one go.

The Damyo Drying Towel feels very soft in the hand, and minimizes the scratches that can occur when hand-drying your vehicle. I’ve always felt like Goldilocks when I am trying different drying towels because I’ll feel like one is too small and another is too big; one is too thin, another is too thick. The Damyo is just right: big enough to dry your vehicle with, but not too large that it becomes unwieldly.

As for drying, this thing seriously dries. I washed my truck and was surprised that this towel actually dried the entire vehicle in one go. What was surprising was that it didn’t feel all that heavy once it was saturated with water. It was extremely absorbant and glided across the surface easily and quickly took off any water on the surface.

The towel is unique in that it seems to be made of two layers that are tied together. This might be the reason why it doesn’t really feel super thick, which has been my complaint about other drying towels that are meant to be super absorbent. It does feel a little odd when you’re running the towel against the vehicle, as you sometimes feel the two surfaces of the towel slip from each other. This results in you sometimes having to hold the towel a bit more of a grip to keep the towel moving across the vehicle.

I think I’ve found my new drying towel of choice. It’s a really nice microfiber material that both feels soft and super absorbent. The size is perfect for me–it dries my whole vehicle without having to wring it out along the way, and while it soaks up the water from the surface of the vehicle, it doesn’t feel too heavy. I really enjoyed drying my vehicle with it and it will probably be the first drying towel I reach for whenever I wash my cars now.
