DIY Detail Damyo Drying Towel: DIY Detail
I’ve put numerous drying towels through the ringer over many years of car detailing, so it takes a lot for a drying towel to genuinely surprise me. Sometimes, these overhyped towels fall flat, forcing me to go back to the ones that I know will work. But DIY Detail’s latest release, the Damyo Drying Towel, might just be a winner.
DIY Detail sent me their Damyo Drying Towel, which is a micro twist loop drying towel that is 1200 GSM and made of a 70/30 microfiber blend. It measures 17″ x 25″ in size and comes in a 2-pack as shown below. One drying towel is intended to dry your entire vehicle in one go, which is something I don’t doubt, but do have some concerns when the towel does get full of water.

The Damyo Drying Towel feels very soft and minimizes the scratches that can occur when hand-drying your vehicle. I’ve always felt like Goldilocks when I am trying different drying towels because I’ll feel like one is too small and another is too big; one is too thin, another too thick. The Damyo is just right: big enough to dry your vehicle with, but not too large that it becomes too unmanageable.

As for drying, this thing seriously dries. I washed my truck and was surprised that this towel actually does what it claims to, which is to dry the entire vehicle at once. What was surprising was that it didn’t feel all that heavy once it was saturated with water. It was extremely absorbant and glided across the surface easily, taking all the water off the surface.

What sets this towel apart is its distinct double-layer construction, joined together along the perimeter of the towel. The result: a lighter, less bulky towel compared to other ultra-absorbant rivals. When those other single-layer ultra-absorbant towels get soaked with water, the whole towel gets extremely heavy. Then when you try wringing it out, the towel is just too thick for you to even grip onto to wring. The only slight downside with this double-layered towel is that you feel the dual surfaces slide against one another, requiring you to grip the towel with more pressure to maintain a steady drag.

After putting the Damyo Drying Towel through its paces, I can say that I think I’ve found my new go-to drying towel. With its plush feel, perfect size, and impressive water-holding capability, it dries up an entire vehicle while still remaining maneuverable. Detailing should be enjoyable, and this towel definitely makes the drying stage a delight. It has officially taken one of the top spots for drying products that I reach for in my detailing arsenal.
