If the car battery on your 4th generation Toyota 4Runner was ever replaced, you might have experienced your automatic driver’s side window, moonroof, and rear hatch window no longer opens or closes automatically with the single full press of your controls. This is common when the battery has been disconnected; it requires you to perform a “normalizing” procedure to re-activate the auto open and close feature of your 4Runner.

How to Get the Auto Open/Close Feature to Work Again

The normalization procedure for re-activating the auto open and close feature is a simple process whether you are doing this for the driver’s window, moonroof, or rear hatch window.

To reset the driver’s side power windows auto open and close feature:
– Push and hold the driver’s door power window switch until the window fully opens.
– Pull up on the driver’s door power window switch until the window fully closes.

To reset the moonroof one-touch feature:
– Push and hold the ‘TILT UP’ button until the moonroof tilts up completely and then drops down slightly.
– Push the ‘SLIDE OPEN’ button so that the moonroof closes.

To reset the rear hatch window:
– Ensure that the key is in the ignition and switched to ON.
– Push and hold down the rear power window switch ‘DOWN’ button until the rear window opens completely.
– Push and hold down the rear power window switch ‘UP’ button until the rear window closes completely.

After each of these normalization procedures, test the auto open/close features accordingly to verify that the procedure worked and that the auto open/close features are working again.
