Wheel cleaners can be one of the more aggressive chemicals that we use on our cars. They are made to be strong enough to clean off the dirt, grime, and brake dust that is typically baked onto the wheel surface. However, sometimes you want something that is safe to use on your wheels, yet still be able to clean your wheels adequately.
Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect is an acid-free wheel cleaner that is safe to use on almost all factory-installed wheels and is a great choice for those wanting a safe, yet still effective wheel cleaner.
First off, the Sonax Wheel Cleaner spray bottle might appear to be small if you go with the smaller size. The other option is an enormous 5 liter container. However, this 16.9 oz. spray bottle is probably enough to all the wheels on several cars. I really like the spray action of the bottle; it’s effortless when you pull the trigger and it has a nice fan spray pattern when it sprays out.
This wheel cleaner has an unique fluorescent yellow color that is apparent as soon as you spray it out of the bottle. If you have any iron particles present, the wheel cleaner will react with it and turn a reddish-purple color. There wasn’t much of that reaction happening on the wheel surface here, but more so on the inner barrel part of the wheel.
Using a wheel cleaner doesn’t mean you don’t have to agitate the surfaces of the wheel. I used a wheel barrel brush to clean the inner barrel. I found it effective to spray the brush with the wheel cleaner, spray the brush quickly with water, and then scrub at different angles between the spokes.
On the face of the wheel, I did the same method of spraying once or twice into a wheel/tire brush, sprayed some water into it, and then brushed the surface of the wheel.
In addition to the wheel, I scrubbed the wheel cleaner on the tire sidewall as well. After brushing everything down with the Sonax Wheel Cleaner, I hosed it all off with water.
The results look fantastic as you can see in the photo below. Keep in mind that I used this product on these coated wheels because the Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect is non-acid and safe; this will help prolong the wheel coating. It still does a great job at cleaning wheels with the right set of wheel brushes.
If you’re working with neglected wheels with heavy baked on brake dust, you might want to try a more aggressive or acidic wheel cleaner. However, in most circumstances and especially if you want something effective yet safe to use on your wheels, look no further than Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect. It sprays on effortlessly with a visible fluorescent yellow color, acts as an iron remover to chemically react with iron particles on your wheels, and effectively cleans wheels to a stunning shine.
