On my continuous journey towards finding the best waterproof shoes to wear when you’re washing your shoes, I find myself coming across one of the top brands out there in this space, Vessi. I’ve been testing and reviewing many of Vessi’s shoes over the past couple of years since they are one of the best brands out there for fully waterproof shoes.
The shoes in this review are the Vessi Stormburst Low Top Waterproof Shoes. Compared to many of the offerings from Vessi, these look drastically different from the rest. To me, they look like a modern hiking shoe compared to some of the other more casual-looking sneakers that Vessi normally offers. In full disclosure, Vessi provided me with these shoes to test out and review.
These Stormburst Low Top’s are in the Mist/Grotto color scheme, which is really unique. Unfortunately, I don’t believe it is available anymore for men, but they do regularly offer limited edition colors, so there is always a color scheme being offered that is interesting and unique.
The shoe is fully waterproof– even the upper knit portion which is breathable and allows for air flow. The shoe’s overall appearing is not narrow by any means; you can tell from the outer sole that it flares out quite a bit. This gives an overall appearance of a wide-looking shoe, but the purpose of this is to offer a lot more stability.
Vessi says that this particular shoe is true to fit and I would say that statement is pretty accurate. Since Vessi offers only full sizes, I decided to size down because I didn’t want the shoe to be too large on me. The size 10 that I got felt slightly tight when I initially tried them on, but ended up being comfortable and very supportive when wearing them.
In addition to using these while washing my cars, I also took this pair of shoes along with me to a recent trip to Taiwan over the summer. If you know the weather over there in the summer, you’ll know that the country can see rainfall practically every day there. Not only did the shoes keep my feet fully dry (I think even better than the Vessi Everyday shoes), but it also offered me a surprising amount of support.
Around the ankle is a elastic band that fits comfortably around my ankle, as long as you clear it around your ankle when you put it on. Usually this involves running your finger around the ankle to make sure the band doesn’t bunch/fold up. There are also added pull tabs on both front and back that help you get your shoe on.
And what about when you wash your car? Well, the Stormburst Low Top is more than adequate at keeping your feet dry from water. I washed my car normally and through the whole wash, and my socks were completely dry after I finished.
As with any other test I do on waterproof shoes, I proceed to completely douse my shoes with water. It’s almost comical how much water I spray onto these shoes… I mean, look at my pants for goodness sake.
And after all that? Aside from my completely soaked pants, you can see that my socks are totally dry. That’s pretty amazing.
When you get waterproof shoes from Vessi, you already know that you’re going to get a quality pair of shoes that will keep your feet dry. But with the Stormburst Low Top, you get a unique looking pair of shoes that look good whether you’re wearing shoes or pants. You also get a supportive shoe that offers good traction due to its grippy outsoles.
The Vessi Stormburst Low Top currently sells for $150 on their site, which is a little high for me. If you sign up for their newsletter, you can get 15% off, which should soften the blow on your purchase. Regardless of the cost, you will get a quality shoe that will keep your feet completely dry during your car washes, but also serve you well whether you’re using them for casual use, travel, or exercise.
