I’ve owned my 2020 Ford F-150 for about five years now and after the many oil changes that I’ve done over the years, I’m always trying to find a way to make my oil changes a bit easier. One of the minor annoyances with doing any oil change on these trucks is having to remove the felt under cover (also known as the diaper) underneath the vehicle. One of the ways around this is to install a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve, which if paired along with a Raptor Transmission Skid Plate not only allows you to avoid having to remove the under cover at every oil change, but it also makes the oil change easier overall.

On this post, I’ll show how to install and use a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve on the 2015-2020 Ford F-150. The install is pretty easy to do and the subsequent oil changes are a lot cleaner of a job to do. The Fumoto oil drain valve takes the place of your drain plug and it has a ball valve that you can open and close with the valve handle.
I was concerned about the valve handle potentially being knocked into an open position and the oil draining out while driving, but the valve is designed to keep this from happening. There is even a little plastic clip that further prevents this from happening. You’ll see from the photos I’ve included in this post showing how there are safety devices in place to keep this from happening.

Fumoto Oil Drain Valve
*As a warning to those who have the plastic oil drain plug on the Ford F150, these Fumoto oil drain valves are not compatible with those systems. For others who have the traditional metal oil drain plug, these Fumoto Oil Drain Valves will work for you. These four different types of Fumoto oil drain valves should fit all engine configurations: the 2.7L V6 Ecoboost, 3.3L V6, 3.5L V6 Ecoboost, and 5.0L V8 engines.
F107SX – Position-Adjustable Oil Drain Valve with M12-1.75
Maximum adjustability by allowing you to choose position and oil flow direction during oil changes, includes lever clip.
F-137 – Original Oil Drain Valve with M12-1.75
Non-nipple valve, includes lever clip. No hose required to drain oil, minimal protrusion from oil pan since there is no extended nipple.
F137S – Short Nipple Oil Drain Valve with M12-1.75
Has 5mm hose nipple length, includes lever clip. Requires Fumoto SH-10 or SL-10 plastic socket to securely attach hose to nipple.
F137N – Long Nipple Oil Drain Valve with M12-1.75 (pictured in this post)
Has 15mm hose nipple length, includes lever clip. Not recommended for vehicles with low ground clearance.

Installing a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve: 13th Gen Ford F-150 (2015-2020)
First thing is to drain your oil as you’d normally do during your oil change. It makes sense to just do your normal oil change at the same time as when you’re installing your new Fumoto oil drain valve. Pull your drain plug and drain out all the oil and change out your oil filter if you wish.

Prepare your Fumoto Oil Drain Valve and prime the provided O-ring with clean motor oil. With the oil all drained out of the truck, thread the new oil drain valve in by hand. I was able to use a 17mm deep socket to tighten the new drain valve in. An adjustable wrench works as well. Fumoto doesn’t offer any specific torque values, but the instructions say to tighten the valve with a crescent wrench 1/4-turn after hand-tightening.

And that is it; the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve stays there permanently. If you operate the valve handle to open and close, you’ll find that you can easily slide the valve handle to the closed position, which will then drop and lock into place. It will not slide into the open position unless you lift on the handle to pull it out of the locked position.
When you slide the valve handle to the closed position, it is locked in place. As an added safety precaution, use the included plastic clip to clip onto the valve to further prevent the valve handle from moving. The plastic lever clip will not clip onto the oil drain valve unless it is in the closed position.

Whenever you perform your oil changes from now on, you can simply remove the lever clip, connect a 3/8″ ID (inner diameter) hose to the nipple of the valve, and open the valve to drain your oil in a much cleaner fashion. Make sure after draining the oil to close the valve and reinstall the lever clip. I personally have done the Raptor Transmission Skid Plate install and it allows for a little opening at the drain plug location, which is perfect for access to the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve without having to remove anything underneath the truck.
