TOZO Tonal Dots T12 Wireless Earbuds: Amazon

I’ve used several pairs of TOZO NC9 wireless earbuds over the course of a few years while working on my home, as well as on my cars. I loved these earbuds so much for the main reason that they are the only earbuds I have ever worn in my life that would stay in my ear and would not fall out. So, I knew that when my NC9’s finally gave out, I had to try another set of TOZO wireless earbuds in hopes that it performs just as well.

I came across this set of TOZO Tonal Dots T12 Wireless Earbuds for about $30 and they looked like it might be an upgrade from the previous ones I had. Upon unboxing these earbuds, I immediately realized that they were slightly larger than my previous TOZO NC9’s. The earbuds also come with a charging case, along with a number of different size ear cups to fit your ears.

The earbuds were had a bit of charge right out of the box, but you will need to plug in a USB-C cable (included in box, but without the charging brick) for a while to fully charge. The earbuds do not appear to charge from the charging case if the charging case is charging via the USB-C cable. Therefore, the case charges the earbuds only if the charging cable is unplugged.

There is a small display on the charging case when it is opened, showing the percentage charge for the case itself. Flanking that are bars on each side, indicating the amount of charge left on each of the earbuds when they are plugged into the case.

As for wearing them, I felt that they were a bit thick. They protrude out of my ears while using them. I’m not sure if it was the fact that the earbuds were sticking out of my ears or if the fit was slightly different than my previous pair of NC9’s, but these did not stay situated in my ears as well as the NC9’s.

They do an okay job of staying in my ears, but they’d fall out if move around too much. Other times, I’d accidentally brush up against something and it will bump the earbuds out of my ears because they are sticking out so much. This would also happen if I were to say, put on or take off my sweater while the earbuds were still in my ears.

The reason for the larger size however is due to the larger diaphragm, which delivers richer bass and a better overall listening experience. From my time listening to music with the T12’s, I can attest to the deeper bass that you get. If you connect to the TOZO app, you can even adjust the various equalizer settings to get it to sound as you prefer. I think the sound quality that you get with these earbuds is pretty amazing considering their overall size.

TOZO advertises the battery life to be 15 hours on a single charge, and 55 hours with the charging case. I found this to be largely inflated, as I could only get about 4-5 hours on a single charge. I’m able to put the earbuds back into the charging case about 3-4 times before the case’s battery is depleted. I’m not sure why the battery life is so much less than what is advertised, but this was my experience with them.

With any bluetooth earbuds, the bluetooth connection between your music device and wireless earbuds can be finicky, and resultingly frustrating. Examples are this happening are when the left and right ear buds do not sync properly so you might have music only playing in one earbud with the other not connected at all. Other times, your bluetooth earbuds might take forever as it tries to connect to your listening device.

I’ve had these kinds issues with a number of different earbuds in the past, but the TOZO T12’s connect quickly and perfectly every single time. Both left and right earbuds connect right away to my iPhone or computer when I remove them from their charging case. They also never have had any issues with connections, which makes the overall experience very enjoyable. There’s no fiddling with them to try to get them to connect whatsoever.

You should be aware that these earbuds are marketed as “noise cancelling”, but they do not have Active Noise Cancelling (ANC). So if you’re looking for ones that specifically have that feature, look elsewhere. These earbuds also don’t work too well for phone calls as people I have spoken to while wearing these could barely hear me talking on the phone.

I still have no idea what “tonal dots” even means, but I read that it has to do with only tones being played over the earbuds rather than a voice informing you things like when the earbuds are paired or disconnected.

Overall, I think this is a great pair of earbuds if you value sound quality yet still want something that fits inside your ears. They also seamlessly connect and disconnect via Blutooth. As for size, they’re a bit too bulky for my taste and they tend to fall out of my ears if I move around too much. Battery life is also much less than what is advertised.
