If you’ve ever gotten tired of getting your shoes all soaked after washing your car, you should consider the other options. Of course, you could wear sandals, but the thing I don’t like about wearing sandals to wash your car is that your feet can get really wet and cold; the other thing is that it’s not a nice feeling walking around as your feet get all wrinkly and rub against the rubber of your sandals.
A better option is to find yourself a pair of waterproof shoes. Not only is it extremely comfortable and gives you lots of grip, it also keeps your feet (and socks) dry! When I first reviewed waterproof shoes a couple years back, there were only a couple sneakers that were fully waterproof and more that were water-resistant. Now, there are a few more brands out there that offer waterproof sneakers.
This review will be on the Flow State shoes made by Theese, a new footwear brand that offers 100% waterproof shoes. At the time of this review, Theese offers two different shoes for both men and women: Purpose and Flow State. I will be writing a future review on the Purpose shoes, but on this review I will be focused on the Flow State. These black Flow State shoes were provided to me by Theese so that I could give my unbiased opinion on.

The Theese Flow State shoes I got are black in color, but they also offer it in white, royal blue, and vintage white (beige). Because Theese only offers full sizes, if you are an in-between size, they recommend you sizing up. I am a size 10.5, so I sized up to an 11. However, after trying them on, I realized that they just felt too big like clown shoes, so I tried my luck with a size 10. The return process was really easy and seamless. When I received my size 10 shoes, I could tell it was a better fit although it was almost too tight.
So I understand why they say to size up… it is to guarantee fitment. However, I think it depends what size you actually are. I think that because I feel that I am exactly between 10 and 11, sizing down to a 10 was just barely ok. However, I think if you are closer to a 10 and a quarter (~10.25), the size 10 might be too tight. Anyway, try it out and if it doesn’t work out, Theese’s return process makes it easy to exchange for just the right fit.

The Flow State’s have that athletic shoe look, with the sides made up of a harder plastic material that allows you to tighten it up a bit with the shoelaces. The rest of the mesh-like fabric is good-looking and overall quality is very nice. The shoe also has a pull tab on the back that helps to get the shoe onto your foot easier. The shoe looks similar to the Vessi’s Everyday Move, with some slight differences.

The retail price on the Theese website is $160, which I think is quite a lot. They offer a 10% discount right off the bat if you sign up for their email list, so you can get the shoes for about $140-$160. I still think it is quite expensive, even if it is a fully waterproof shoes. You might still be interested in the Flow State if you really like the look of them and are looking for fully waterproof shoes (which I test and can say they are.)

I washed our car wearing these shoes to see how they’d fare when just doing a normal car wash. After I finished washing my car, my shoes had a moderate amount of water splash onto the shoes, which didn’t penetrate the shoe at all.
Of course, I had to test just how waterproof these shoes are, so I blasted the shoes with a hose to see what would happen. After I did this and took my shoes off, I found that shoes were mostly dry. Part of the socks closer to my ankles felt barely damp, which makes me think some of the water from the hose splashed onto the socks above the shoe. The part of the socks inside my shoes were mostly dry, which is pretty incredible.

The Theese Flow State is pretty comfortable to wear and has a nice snug fit. This probably has a little to do with sizing down to a size 10, but I am pretty pleased with the comfort of these shoes. The black color I think looks unassuming and would match with most anything you wear. Again, I wish that the shoes didn’t cost $160, but if you can get it on sale or on discount, you should really consider them if you want to keep your feet and socks dry during your car washes.
