The ‘CHECK VSC’ Warning and Check Engine Light
It’s common on Toyota and Lexus vehicles that when your check engine light comes on, it also triggers other warning lights to come on as well, such as the ‘CHECK VSC’ warning on the multi-information display, or even the traction control light. When this happens, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the there is something wrong with the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system.
When you get this combination of warning lights, you should simply focus on the check engine light as this is likely the primary issue. You can use an OBDII reader to check the engine codes on your Lexus to figure out exactly what trouble codes come up. Here are a couple options for OBDII engine code readers if you don’t have one already:
Classic Hand-held code reader: ANCEL AD310 Classic OBD II Code Reader
Bluetooth code reader: Veepeak OBDII Bluetooth Scanner for iOS & Android
I have both a traditional code reader and a bluetooth code reader; either one will provide you with the engine codes that your car is throwing. Plug the OBDII code reader into the OBD-II plug located in the footwell near the pedals.
Once you obtain the codes, you can start to pinpoint where the issue lies. Once you’ve addressed the cause of the issue, then you can clear the engine codes with your code reader. If the issue(s) have been fixed, then the engine light should not turn back on and the ‘VSC CHECK’ warning should also no longer reappear.
