Depending on your vehicle use, your ‘Oil change required‘ light may come on your instrument cluster. This can range from 3,000 miles (most severe use: max load/towing, extreme hot/cold) up to 10,000 miles (normal use: normal commuting, highway driving, little to no loading, flat terrain, no extended idling).

On the Ford Focus MK3 (years 2011-2018), if you have changed your own oil (or the the shop forgot to reset your oil change reset indicator, you can easily do it by yourself.

First, turn your key to the ignition position. This means turning your key all the way to the on position without starting the car.

Then, press the brake pedal and accelerator all the way down (remember your car is off at this time) and hold them down.

After a few seconds, a message will appear on your instrument cluster saying, “Service: oil reset in progress“. Continue holding the brake and accelerator pedals down for another 15+ seconds until the message changes to, “Service: Oil reset complete“.

And that’s it, you are done with the oil life reset on your 2011-2018 Ford Focus MK3!
